UPPER FRYINGPAN (Mile Marker 8 to Ruedi Reservoir)

FLOW: 55 CFS 

WATER CLARITY: A bit mossy with the flow drop

OVERALL RATING: 7 out of 10

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: BWOs, mysis shrimp, PMDs, craneflies, midges

THE LOW-DOWN : This coming Monday flows will be diverted to the back side, behind the "Toilet Bowl."  It is strongly recommended that you refrain from fishing the Bowl when the water ceases to flow through it.  Normal discharge from the Toilet Bowl will resume a few days after Monday, depending on dam maintenance. 

Fall is here, low flow conditions await you on the Fryingpan. Flows have dropped to 80 CFS, and we are seeing strong hatches midday, especially on the upper river (Mile Markers 8-12). Like it says above, there is a bit of a mossy factor this week but the dry fly fishing remains strong.

BWOs have been hatching with a vengeance with the flow drop, and believe it or not, we're seeing a few sporadic PMDs, green drakes and small caddis. The best dry fly hatches are still from noon to four, but the twilight PMD spinner fall is still strong if it's not too windy. Closing out your day with a well-presented streamer can be a lot of fun!

As we ease in to lower flows, be sure to fish with a minimal amount of line on the water and be sure to utilize your finer tippets....yes, it's 6x time, folks!

Keep your nymphs on the small side and try to sight fish as much as possible. Those who catch the most fish on the Pan cast the least!

MIDDLE FRYINGPAN (Mile Markers 4 to 8)

WATER CONDITIONS: Clear with less moss-factor

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Caddis, BWOs, Midges, PMDs, craneflies

OVERALL RATING: 7 out of 10

THE LOW DOWN: The middle Pan is your answer to the crowded river blues. The main event is a pretty decent BWO hatch. You'll have chances of seeing small caddis, some craneflies, sporadic green drakes and PMDs until the end of October.

You can get away with larger flies in the middle and lower river, you can throw your favorite beaded nymphs as well as larger dry flies for a bit longer.

No need to rush to the upper, there is plenty of good fishing in this section..

HATCHES: Caddis 16-18, BWOs 18-22, Midges 20-26, PMDs 14-18, Craneflies 10-16

HINTS: Fish a whole mile of river, you'll fish many different water types and get shots at a lot of fish!

LOWER  FRYINGPAN (Basalt to Mile Marker 4) 

WATER CONDITIONS: Clear and significantly less moss than above.

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Caddis, PMDs, BWO adults and nymphs, midges.

OVERALL RATING: 7 out of 10

THE LOWDOWN:  There are PMDs, BWOs and caddis hatching this week down low on the Pan if you like throwing dry flies. 

Stones, worms, and princes have been great lead flies while trailing small baetis patterns.
