Colorado River Report

July 4, 2022

FLOW: 3360 CFS in Glenwood Springs

WATER CONDITIONS: Runoff is over, but most days the "big river" has been off-color with low visibility.

OVERALL RATING:  7 out of 10 if clean, 1 out of 10 if muddy

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Caddis, BWOs, Green Drakes, Golden Stoneflies, Pale Morning Duns, Craneflies, Midges

THE LOW DOWN:  The twilight green drake hatch is getting started and will improve in the coming weeks. Midday hatches of caddis, PMDs, Yellow Sallies and golden stoneflies are already commonplace. As we talk about on the Roaring Fork Report, the fish seem to prefer muted green drake patterns this year versus the usual high-vis suspects.

Recent monsoonal trends have added quite a bit of color to the Colorado, but there are some opportunities after dry and cool days.

HATCHES: Green Drakes 10-12, Caddis 14-18, Yellow Sallies 16, Golden Stoneflies 4-10, BWOs 18-22, Pale Moring Duns 14-18, Midges 16-22
